Buganda Kingdom Secures Over Shs42 Million in Luwalo Contributions

Buganda Kingdom has seen a substantial influx of over Shs42 million in Luwalo contributions, a traditional form of support, from its subjects. These funds were collected from individuals residing in Busiro, Bulemeezi, and the United Kingdom, demonstrating a continued commitment to the Kingdom’s development agenda.

The contributions were formally presented at Bulange, Mengo, by Patrick Luwagga Mugumbule, the Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko. He lauded Baganda living abroad for acting as cultural ambassadors, highlighting their role in preserving Buganda’s heritage through their actions and conduct.

Mugumbule stressed the critical importance of teaching the Luganda language and maintaining cultural identity, especially for younger generations living outside the Kingdom. He emphasized that cultural preservation is vital for national identity, with diasporic communities playing a key role in representing and safeguarding this heritage.

He further reminded all Baganda, irrespective of their location, about the cultural roots of Luwalo and encouraged widespread participation in supporting the Kingdom’s development projects. Joseph Kawuki, the Minister for Local Government, expressed gratitude for the subjects’ support, which aims to restore Buganda to its former prominence.

Dr. Grace Steven Sseruyange, First Deputy of Ssebwana, also encouraged subjects to actively inform others about the Kingdom’s programs to foster broader engagement and benefit. Meanwhile, Janet Nabatta Mukiibi, Second Deputy Representative of the Kabaka in the UK and Ireland, reported on the reorganization and strengthened cooperation within the British Buganda community. This group has also mobilized 200 young tech professionals to offer guidance and support to members pursuing careers abroad.

Specific contributions included Shs21 million from various sub-counties in Busiro, Shs3.9 million from Bulemeezi, and a notable Shs17,227,075 from the United Kingdom group, totaling Shs42,127,075.
