Uganda’s fight against cancer received a major boost as the annual Cancer Run event surpassed the Shs5 billion fundraising mark. This significant achievement brings the nation closer to establishing a much-needed, modern cancer treatment facility.

The event saw an overwhelming turnout, with thousands of participants engaging in runs, walks, and various activities not only in the capital, Kampala, but also in 62 other towns across the country. This widespread participation highlights the deep concern and collective effort Ugandans are investing in combating cancer.

Funds generated from this year’s run, coupled with previous contributions, have collectively pushed the fundraising total past the Shs5 billion threshold. These resources are earmarked for the construction and equipping of a comprehensive cancer centre, which aims to provide advanced diagnostics and treatment options, reducing the need for many Ugandans to seek care abroad.

Organizers expressed gratitude for the public’s unwavering support and generosity. The success of the Cancer Run underscores the community’s commitment to improving cancer care services within Uganda and provides a beacon of hope for countless individuals and families affected by the disease.
