EC Confirms September 4 for National Women's Committee Elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) has finalized the schedule for the election of the National Women’s Executive Committee, marking the culmination of the Women’s Councils election process.
The election is set to take place on September 3 and 4, 2026, in Kampala. An electoral college comprising 147 delegates will cast their votes to fill key positions.
The delegates consist of 146 chairpersons from City and District Women’s Councils, along with one woman representing persons with disabilities, nominated by the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.
Activities will commence on Thursday, September 3, at Kyambogo College School. Delegates will undergo accreditation starting at 10:00 AM, followed by the nomination of candidates for the four available positions at 2:00 PM. These positions include chairperson, vice chairperson, publicity secretary, and secretary for finance.
Candidate campaigning is scheduled for Friday, September 4, beginning at 8:00 AM. The polling process, conducted via secret ballot, will commence at noon.
Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, emphasized that this election represents the final step in establishing Women’s Councils and Committees from the village to the national level. He urged all participants to strictly adhere to the announced dates, times, and electoral procedures.
Aspiring candidates can obtain nomination forms from the Office of the Returning Officer for Kampala Capital City, located in Ministers Village, Ntinda, Nakawa. This Returning Officer will also oversee the national women’s election. The national conference will convene members of the National Women’s Council to participate in electing the executive committee.
