Iganga Police Nab 31 Suspects in Anti-Crime Sweep, Seize Weapons and Drugs

An intelligence-led police operation in Iganga District has led to the apprehension of 31 suspects believed to be involved in criminal activities. The operation, which focused on known crime hotspots and suspected gathering places for criminals, aimed to disrupt illegal activities and enhance public safety.
According to ASP Michael Kasadha, the Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson, the targeted areas were identified as places where individuals allegedly congregate to consume opium before engaging in robberies. The arrested individuals include 30 males and one female.
During the operation, police recovered three pangas from suspects arrested in the Buligo area. Additionally, quantities of both rolled and unrolled marijuana were seized, indicating a connection to drug-related offenses. Police reported that 19 suspects were apprehended in the Ssaza Road and Kaliro Road vicinities, while three were taken into custody in Buligo. Further arrests included five individuals in Nakalama and four in Bunyiro.
All 31 suspects are currently detained at Iganga Central Police Station. They face charges related to the possession of narcotics and dangerous weapons. Police have stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
ASP Kasadha lauded the public for their cooperation in providing crucial information that facilitated the successful execution of the operation. He assured residents that similar law enforcement actions would continue across the district to further curb criminal elements. The police also urged the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly to the nearest police station to aid in maintaining security.
