Kamuli LC1 Chairpersons Warned Against Misusing Official Stamps for Campaign Recovery

Over 700 Local Council 1 (LC1) chairpersons in Kamuli District have been sworn into office, with a strong admonition from district officials regarding the misuse of official government property. The primary concern raised was the inappropriate use of official stamps to recover personal campaign costs.
During the swearing-in ceremony held at the Bugabula North Constituency headquarters in Balawoli Sub-county, Kamuli Chief Administrative Officer Ben Lawrence Marley explicitly warned the newly elected leaders. He stated that the official stamps are government property meant for public service delivery and should not be employed for personal financial recovery after elections. Marley cautioned that such misuse could lead to legal repercussions, including imprisonment.
Kamuli Resident District Commissioner Rose Birungi urged the chairpersons to channel the energy used during their campaigns into tangible community development and improved livelihoods. She encouraged them to lead by example, enforce laws, and actively participate in implementing government programs, regardless of political affiliation. Birungi also stressed the importance of addressing issues such as theft, land grabbing, and protecting vulnerable populations.
Further directives included a focus on mobilizing residents for government initiatives, promoting sanitation and hygiene, and encouraging the adoption of programs aimed at increasing household incomes. The district leadership also committed to providing an induction for the new leaders to better understand their roles and responsibilities, including monitoring government workers.
Additionally, Kamuli District LCV Chairman Kaloli Dhizaala highlighted the responsibility that comes with the office, emphasizing service over personal gain. Vice chairpersons were specifically tasked with prioritizing child protection, addressing issues like abuse, child labor, and early marriage. A call was also made for the Electoral Commission to translate oaths of office into local languages to ensure better understanding by the elected officials.
