Lwengo Authorities Arrest School Administrators for Defying Holiday Class Ban

Security forces in Lwengo District have taken three school administrators into custody for allegedly flouting government regulations by offering classes during the current school break. The arrests were the result of a morning operation targeting educational institutions suspected of operating outside the official school calendar.

Lwengo Resident District Commissioner, Emmy Kateera, spearheaded the operation, which aimed to identify and stop schools that were continuing to teach despite clear prohibitions against it during holiday periods. Officials reported finding students inside classrooms receiving instruction, which led to the apprehension of the administrators.

The individuals arrested include Lawrence Asiimwe of Riyadh Islamic Secondary School, Rogers Kakande, proprietor of Prime Alliance Nursery School, and Brenda Ayinemani. They were taken to Kyazanga Police Station for questioning, while the students were sent home.

District Chairperson Abas Kizitto voiced concerns about the growing trend of parents enrolling their children in holiday classes. He encouraged parents to utilize the break for teaching practical life skills and home responsibilities, rather than solely relying on schools.

Kizitto warned that if the practice persists, parents might also face scrutiny. “Parents should understand that holidays are not only meant for children to stay away from school, but also provide an opportunity for them to learn responsibilities and practical skills at home,” he stated.

RDC Kateera reiterated the warning to school heads, emphasizing that continued violation of the holiday class ban would result in arrest and prosecution. He assured the public that security operations would persist throughout the district to ensure adherence to educational policies.

These enforcement actions are part of a broader effort by authorities to uphold the integrity of the official school calendar and ensure students have sufficient time for rest and recuperation during their breaks.
