Mount Moroto Hotel has made a significant contribution of Shs1 million towards the Moroto Rotary Cancer Run, a charitable event aimed at raising funds for cancer treatment and prevention. The donation serves as a tribute to the late Mzee Cornelius Kodet Lorika, a respected businessman and philanthropist who was known for his commitment to supporting the fight against cancer.
Beyond the monetary contribution, Mount Moroto Hotel actively supported the cancer run by providing essential resources. This included supplying running kits for participants, ensuring hydration with bottled water, and making available a public address system crucial for both event mobilization and the main activities.
The Moroto Rotary Cancer Run, championed by Centenary Bank, is part of a broader national campaign to gather funds for the completion and equipping of the Rotary Centenary Bank Cancer Centre at Nsambya Hospital. Emmanuel Yongo, the Manager of Mount Moroto Hotel, stated that the hotel’s support was a deliberate effort to honor Kodet’s enduring legacy and his lifelong dedication to cancer awareness and support.
“Our support is intended to honour the life and legacy of Mzee Cornelius Kodet Lorika, whose commitment to supporting the fight against cancer remained unwavering throughout his lifetime,” Yongo explained. He further noted that Kodet’s family and former employees continue to back the cancer run, ensuring his vision for cancer care remains alive.
Staff from Moroto Regional Referral Hospital also participated, with Queen Asibazu, an accountant, sharing her personal motivation stemming from losing loved ones to cancer. Sarah Kabasindi, the hospital’s Human Resource Manager, emphasized the health workers’ role in demonstrating solidarity and leading by example in supporting such noble causes.
Mary Clare Awori, Manager of Centenary Bank’s Moroto Branch, highlighted the bank’s extensive commitment, noting their cumulative contribution of approximately Shs3 billion to the Rotary Cancer Run over the years and their co-funding of the Nsambya Hospital cancer centre. This initiative underscores a commitment that extends beyond traditional banking services to directly improve community well-being.
