Museveni Hails Late NRM Stalwart Christopher Mulenga

President Yoweri Museveni has paid tribute to the late Christopher Mulenga, describing him as a “dependable NRM cadre, a wise elder and a true servant of the people.” Mulenga, who passed away at the age of 86 after a long battle with diabetes, was recognized for his significant contributions to the NRM and his dedication to serving the community in Kigezi.

Mulenga served for an impressive 31 years as a district councilor representing the Northern Division of Kabale District. During his tenure, he also held the influential positions of NRM chief whip and NRM treasurer for Kabale District. In these roles, he was known for mentoring young politicians and fostering support for the NRM party.

President Museveni’s message of condolence, delivered by State Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives David Bahati at Mulenga’s burial in Kabale, highlighted Mulenga’s role in creating employment and bolstering the local economy through entrepreneurship. The President emphasized that Mulenga’s life exemplified the virtues of hard work and discipline.

“It is always sad when we lose our elders because they stand between the past and the present,” Museveni stated in his message, urging attendees to take pride in Mulenga’s achievements. The retired Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt Rev George Bagamuhunda, also remembered Mulenga as a humble and dignified individual who offered hope to the vulnerable without seeking personal recognition.

Mulenga’s family remembered him as a loving and generous parent, whose home was always open to those in need, providing mentorship and support. His legacy extends to his 12 children, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was laid to rest in his family’s burial ground in Kabale Municipality.
