The Uganda Premier League is off to a blazing start for two teams, NEC and UPPC, who have both secured victories in their opening matches and continued their winning streak into the second matchday.

NEC currently sits as the early pacesetter, adding a commanding 3-1 victory over visiting Lugazi to their initial 2-0 triumph against KCCA. The match at the Phillip Omondi Stadium saw a slow start, but NEC eventually broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute through Richard Basangwa, who capitalized on a rebound. Just four minutes later, Innocent Media doubled NEC’s lead following a goalkeeping error. Media sealed the contest with his second goal in the dying minutes after a well-placed through ball, before Lugazi managed a late consolation through Richard Ayiko.

Meanwhile, UPPC also celebrated their second successive win, demonstrating resilience by coming from behind to defeat fellow Nakivubo tenants UPDF 2-1. UPDF took the lead in the 25th minute via Derrick Tarewa, but UPPC equalized through Thomas Ochungo before halftime. The decisive goal came in the 71st minute when substitute Ambrose Kigozi successfully converted a penalty, securing all three points for the Abdallah Mubiru-coached side.

These early results highlight NEC and UPPC as teams to watch as the league season progresses.
