New IGG Recruits Urged to Be Impartial in Anti-Corruption Fight

The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala, has issued a strong call to action for newly recruited Inspectorate officers, urging them to approach their duties with impartiality and courage. Speaking at a five-day induction training held at the Civil Service College in Jinja, Batala stressed that the officers’ work is fundamental to effective public service delivery and maintaining citizens’ trust in government.

“You have not simply joined another public institution. You have joined an institution whose work directly affects the lives of citizens and the quality of public service delivery in our country,” Batala stated, highlighting the significant impact of their roles.

She cautioned the recruits against behaviors that could erode public confidence, such as missed deadlines, poor record-keeping, mishandling sensitive information, and disregarding established procedures. The IGG also acknowledged the evolving nature of corruption, particularly with technological advancements, and impressed upon the officers the need for continuous professional development and skill updates.

“The public expects us to be fair. They expect us to be professional. They expect us to act without fear or favour,” she reiterated.

Furthermore, Batala encouraged a collaborative work environment, emphasizing the importance of teamwork, mutual respect among colleagues, knowledge sharing, and individual accountability for assigned responsibilities. The induction training, which commenced on August 31, is designed to thoroughly introduce the new officers to the Inspectorate’s mandate, operational systems, core values, and professional expectations.

Commissioner Savia Mugwanya of the Civil Service College Uganda also addressed the recruits, encouraging them to utilize the acquired skills to become exemplary public servants. The newly trained officers are expected to apply their knowledge and skills to strengthen accountability and combat corruption within Uganda’s public institutions.
