Parliament to Officially Mourn Tooro King Oyo

The Parliament of Uganda has marked the passing of the Omukama of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, with a moment of silence during a plenary sitting. The session, presided over by Speaker Jacob Oboth-Oboth, commenced with several minutes dedicated to remembering the late cultural leader.

Speaker Oboth-Oboth acknowledged the significant void left by King Oyo’s death, stating it impacts not only the Tooro Kingdom but also Uganda as a whole. He described the late monarch as a dedicated guardian of Tooro’s rich culture, who actively promoted tourism and elevated the kingdom’s international profile.

“Omukama has been a true custodian of our culture. He preserved the culture of Tooro with dignity, he promoted tourism in this region and made the Tooro Kingdom known worldwide,” Oboth stated.

An official tribute ceremony will be scheduled by Parliament at a later date. Members of Parliament representing the Tooro sub-region have encouraged their colleagues to attend this event to pay their respects and share their appreciation for the King’s contributions.

King Oyo ascended to the throne in 1995 at the tender age of three, earning recognition as the world’s youngest reigning monarch at that time. Throughout his reign, he was a notable advocate for youth empowerment, environmental protection, and the enhancement of tourism within the Tooro region.
