Speaker Oboth Eulogizes King Oyo as Uganda's 'Proud Ambassador'

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oboth has lauded the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Tooro as a distinguished figure who passionately represented Uganda both domestically and internationally.
During a plenary session on Tuesday, Mr. Oboth reflected on King Oyo’s significant contributions, highlighting how the monarch leveraged his esteemed position to promote Uganda’s attractions and advocate for critical issues beyond the borders of Tooro Kingdom.
“While becoming the proud ambassador of Uganda at home and across the world he also used his position to make a difference beyond the throne,” Oboth stated.
Mr. Oboth specifically recalled King Oyo’s symbolic climb of Margherita Peak in the Rwenzori Mountains, an endeavor that aimed to boost tourism and raise crucial awareness about climate change. The Speaker emphasized the King’s dedication to supporting youth opportunities and utilizing his global platform to showcase Tooro and Uganda to the world.
King Oyo ascended to the throne at the tender age of three in 1995, becoming the world’s youngest reigning monarch at that time. Despite his early accession, he matured into a respected cultural leader, admired for his humility, passion for tourism, and commitment to engaging the youth.
“His Majesty’s story was truly remarkable, he ascended the throne in just three years and for more than three decades grew into the eyes of his people into a respected admired cultural leader. He carried the tradition and aspirations of Tooro with dignity,” Oboth remarked, adding that the King’s legacy, rather than the length of his life, is what truly defines his impact.
The Speaker noted that King Oyo’s passing is a profound loss not only for the Tooro royal family and its people but for Uganda as a nation. Parliament is expected to formally address a motion to honor the late King’s contributions.
The tribute comes as arrangements for the King’s return and burial are underway, with the Tooro Kingdom suspending meetings to focus on the solemn proceedings.
