Tooro Kingdom Postpones Council Meetings Amidst King's Return and Burial Preparations

The Tooro Kingdom has officially suspended all upcoming supreme council meetings and other non-essential activities. This decision, announced by Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, is to ensure the Kingdom can fully focus on the dignified return and burial of the late King.
The Rukurato meeting initially scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, has been postponed indefinitely, with a new date to be communicated by the Prime Minister’s office. Rwomiire is currently in Kampala engaged in high-level consultations with central government officials to coordinate the repatriation and interment of the King’s remains.
“At this solemn moment, there can be no greater priority for the Kingdom than bringing our King home and laying him to rest with the dignity, honour and respect befitting His Majesty,” Rwomiire stated in a message shared via the Kingdom’s official X account. He urged all leaders, institutions, and the people of Tooro to set aside internal debates and exercise “maximum restraint.”
Rwomiire also cautioned against public speculation and internal strife during the mourning period, stressing that administrative and political grievances must be deferred. “This is not that time. For now, our responsibility is clear: Bring our King home. Honour him. Lay him to rest with dignity. Stand together as one Tooro. Everything else can wait,” he added.
However, a dissenting voice emerged, with Omujwera Musuuga Charles Kamurasi reportedly asserting his authority to proceed with the council meeting. Kamurasi, in a telephone interview, stated that the meeting called by him would go ahead as planned, suggesting the Prime Minister lacked the power to cancel it. Further details regarding the King’s burial itinerary and the arrival of his remains are anticipated following ongoing government engagements in Kampala.
