UPDF 3rd Division Bolsters Skills with Refresher Training for Intake 05 Recruits

The UPDF’s 3rd Infantry Division is currently conducting a vital refresher training course for recruits from Intake 05. This initiative, held at the Division Headquarters in Moroto, is designed to hone the soldiers’ skills and prepare them for effective deployment in various operational environments.

The participating recruits are those who successfully completed their initial training at Olilim Basic Military Training School on July 9, 2026, and are affiliated with units under the 3rd Infantry Division.

Brigadier General Michael Walaka Hyeroba, the Division Commander, emphasized the significance of the refresher course during the opening ceremony. He highlighted it as a key element in the professional development pathway within the UPDF, urging the trainees to embody the force’s core values and maintain its respected image.

Brig Gen Walaka also reminded the recruits of their commitment upon joining the UPDF, stating, “You joined an institution which has rules and regulations, and you must know your role in the UPDF.” He encouraged a proactive approach to the training, stressing its importance in preparing them for the demanding realities of military service.

Colonel Santurino Mashereka Tumuranzye, the Division Operations and Training Officer, further elaborated on the necessity of ongoing training. He noted that continuous skill development is essential for adapting to a constantly evolving operational landscape and stated, “Training sharpens military competency and strengthens strategic security partnerships.”

The ceremony was well-attended by senior UPDF officers, including the Deputy Division Commander, Colonel Winston Mugarura, brigade commanders, and various department heads.
