Busoga Kingdom has announced the postponement of the 12th coronation anniversary celebrations for His Majesty Isebantu Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV. The decision was made in a show of respect for the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Tooro Kingdom.

The original celebrations were slated for September 13, 2026. However, the event has been moved to Saturday, September 19, 2026, and will be held at the Mayuge District Headquarters grounds.

This change was officially communicated by the Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom, Owekitibwa Ekisengede Katuukiro Dr. Joseph Muwawala. He stated that the postponement is intended to honor the late Tooro monarch and to ensure that Ugandans can participate in his burial rites.

King Oyo passed away on August 26, 2026, in the United States after being admitted to a hospital for undisclosed medical reasons. The coincidence of his burial with the initially planned Busoga anniversary necessitated the rescheduling.

However, the Gabula Day commemoration, scheduled for September 9 in Buyende, will proceed as planned. This event will also serve as an occasion to pay tribute to the departed King of Tooro.

Prime Minister Muwawala concluded his statement with a message of peace for the late monarch, saying, “May the Soul of our departed monarch rest in eternal peace. Busoga Okwiisania Nhamanii.”

The Kingdom of Tooro had previously announced that King Oyo’s body would arrive in Uganda on Friday, September 12, 2026.
