A solemn incident occurred on Wednesday morning, September 2, 2026, along the Mityana-Mubende Road when a Mitsubishi Canter vehicle veered off the road and overturned into Pamujjugu Swamp.
The driver, identified as Felix Kaganda, 26, from Wakiso District, was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle, registration number UBJ 494H, was en route from Mityana to Mubende when the crash took place around 10:00 AM.
Preliminary police reports suggest that the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the fatal plunge into the swamp. Two other occupants of the Canter, Reagan Ssekandi, 27, and Enock Kanyike, 22, both from the same locality as the deceased, were extricated from the wreckage and transported to Mityana General Hospital for treatment.
Wamala Region Police spokesperson, SSP Lameck Kigozi, confirmed that traffic officers have documented the scene and the vehicle has been towed to the Mityana traffic yard as investigations commence. While suspected reckless driving is considered a potential cause, authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
Kaganda’s body has been moved to Mityana General Hospital’s mortuary for a postmortem examination. Police have taken this opportunity to reiterate their appeal to motorists to prioritize safety and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent future tragedies.
“We urge drivers to exercise maximum caution and always put safety first. Reckless driving can have devastating consequences, not only for the driver but also for passengers and other road users,” Kigozi emphasized.
