Moses Anguyo, a prison warder, has received the death penalty for the murders of four individuals at Kiboga Prison on February 23, 2026. The special High Court session, presided over by Justice Jane Okuo Kajuga, found Anguyo guilty of four counts of murder, one count of aggravated robbery, and threatening violence.

Justice Kajuga stated that the loss of four lives warranted the harshest punishment, overriding Anguyo’s guilty plea, remorse, and apology to the victims’ families. “Four lives should not go for a life imprisonment,” the judge remarked, emphasizing the gravity of the offenses.

During the trial, it was revealed that Anguyo had a prior record of indiscipline. Service records indicated he was fined in 2021 for absconding from duty and disobeying lawful orders while at Moroto Central Prison, suggesting a pattern of misconduct.

The victims of the murder charges were identified as Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Catherine Hope, Prison Officer 1 Bright Akishuri, Sarah Ayebare, and Salson Nuwagaba. Anguyo also received a two-year sentence for aggravated robbery and a three-year sentence for threatening violence. Additionally, he was ordered to pay restitution for stolen items.

Anguyo initially denied the charges but changed his plea to guilty on all seven counts after the prosecution presented key witness testimonies. He was tried alongside three alleged accomplices.
