The much-anticipated return of the remains of the late King of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, is scheduled for Friday. The casket will arrive at Entebbe International Airport, where President Yoweri Museveni will formally receive the body and offer condolences to the royal family.
This announcement, confirmed by Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, clarifies earlier reports and signals that preparations are in their final stages. “The Omuguta [body], as we call it in Tooro, arrives on Friday,” Rwomiire stated, emphasizing that Thursday would be the last day for public condolences at the King’s residence in Buziga.
Following the arrival at Entebbe, the King’s remains will be flown to Kyegegwa District. From there, a road procession will escort the casket to its final resting place at the Karuzika Palace in Fort Portal, the heart of the Tooro Kingdom.
Prior to the King’s return, Parliament is set to hold a special sitting on Thursday. The House will convene to honor King Oyo’s significant contributions to both the Tooro Kingdom and Uganda as a whole. Speaker Jacob Marksons Oboth described the late monarch as a “distinguished leader” and a “proud ambassador” whose brief life left a profound impact on millions.
King Oyo ascended to the throne in 1995 at the tender age of three, becoming the world’s youngest monarch at that time. His reign was notably marked by his dedicated advocacy for tourism promotion, youth empowerment initiatives, and the vital preservation of cultural heritage.
