SFC Commander Calls for Combat Skill Translation After Drill Victory

Major General Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru, commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC), has exhorted his soldiers to transform their recent victory in the Chief of Defence Forces Inter-Forces Drill Competition into tangible improvements in combat and shooting skills. The call came as the SFC unit was felicitated at their Entebbe headquarters upon receiving the championship trophy.
The SFC emerged as the overall winners of the competition’s second edition, also securing a cash prize of Shs50 million. Major General Nyakikuru acknowledged this achievement as a testament to the professionalism, teamwork, and dedication of his forces. However, he cautioned against viewing the drill victory as the ultimate goal.
“This was a CDF drill competition, but it does not end there. I want us to win in combat because, after all, we are Special Forces. I also want us to win shooting competitions,” Major General Nyakikuru stated, emphasizing the need to translate disciplined performance into operational readiness.
He further commended the instructors, commanders, and participants for their efforts and encouraged early preparation for future contests. The SFC Deputy Commander, Brigadier General John Bosco Asinguza, attributed the command’s ongoing success to sacrifice, courage, endurance, teamwork, and consistent preparation, noting that parade drill fosters alertness, coordination, confidence, leadership, and cohesion.
Meanwhile, SFC Chief of Staff Brigadier General John Mango Baraza warned the triumphant unit against complacency. He highlighted that other Uganda People’s Defence Forces formations would be striving to reclaim the title, urging the SFC to maintain rigorous training to defend their championship status. The SFC also distinguished themselves by winning the Officers’ Sword Drill, with Lieutenant Gordon Akandwanaho recognized as the Best Junior Officer.
