Socialite 'Don Chris' Denies Shs725m Job Fraud, Remanded to Luzira

City Hall Court has remanded Christian Asiimwe, a socialite and businessman widely known as Don Chris, to Luzira Prison. Asiimwe, the director of Sky Pins Tours and Travel Company, faces a staggering 127 charges of obtaining money by false pretences, allegedly amounting to Shs725.6 million.
Appearing unrepresented before Senior Principal Magistrate Grade One Nicholas Aisu, Asiimwe calmly denied all charges. The prosecution alleges that between 2023 and 2025, Asiimwe and others, operating from the Sky Pins Tours and Travel office in Ntinda, Kampala, defrauded hundreds of job seekers. They are accused of promising international employment in countries such as Canada, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Qatar, and the United States.
Victims reportedly paid between Shs1 million and Shs10 million, depending on the advertised destination. Specific instances cited by the prosecution include Shs10 million and Shs9.2 million paid by two individuals for jobs in Canada, and Shs7.2 million for a position in Luxembourg. An earlier discrepancy where Shs7.7 billion was stated numerically was corrected to Shs7.7 million in words.
Asiimwe was apprehended on August 27, 2026, following a police operation. Investigators have reportedly recorded statements from over 500 individuals claiming to be victims of the recruitment scheme. The charges fall under Section 285 of the Penal Code Act. The court has set September 21, 2026, for the hearing to commence, as investigations are reported to be complete. Asiimwe remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
