Maroons Football Club has secured their first three points in the Startimes Uganda Premier League this season, thanks to a commanding 3-1 victory over newly promoted Ntugasaze. The match, however, was not without its drama, as Maroons had to hold on for the win with a man down for the final half hour.
Former KCCA and URA playmaker Jackson Nunda was the undisputed star of the game. Nunda opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a clever flick from a corner. He then doubled Maroons’ lead just before halftime, heading home another corner from Edward Kabona. Nunda’s impressive display continued as he earned a penalty after being fouled in the box, which was calmly converted by striker Marvin Oshaba.
Despite a significant deficit, Ntugasaze showed resilience and managed to pull a goal back through Ronald Kaye. Kaye’s efforts later forced a sharp save from Maroons’ substitute goalkeeper Derrick Were, who proved instrumental in preserving the lead.
Maroons’ task became more challenging when Edward Kabona was sent off for denying a goal-scoring opportunity as the last man. Despite playing with ten men, the team managed to defend their advantage and secure the crucial win.
In another fixture, Blacks Power maintained their early momentum in the league, adding to their opening-day success with a 1-0 victory over Police at the Hoima City Stadium.
