Police in Kamuli District have apprehended one individual and recovered a substantial cache of medical supplies and equipment suspected to be government property. The seizure, which included assorted drugs and medical equipment clearly marked “Government of Uganda – Not for Sale,” occurred at premises within Kamuli Municipality.

Acting on credible intelligence regarding the alleged illegal possession and suspected sale of these government medical supplies, a police team conducted targeted searches. The operation also led to the impounding of a government refrigerator and a motor vehicle believed to be connected to the illicit trade.

The arrested suspect, identified as Nangobi Lydia, is currently assisting police with ongoing investigations. Authorities are also actively pursuing another individual who is reported to be at large in connection with the case.

Preliminary findings suggest that some of the recovered medicines had already expired. Police are working collaboratively with relevant health authorities, including the National Medical Stores (NMS) and the National Drug Authority (NDA), to ascertain the origin of the medical supplies, how they fell into the suspects’ possession, and the circumstances surrounding their alleged storage and attempted sale.

Authorities are urging the public to refrain from engaging with government medical supplies marked “Not for Sale.” Any information concerning the illegal diversion, possession, or sale of such essential items should be reported to the nearest police station to aid in further investigations.
