Speaker Oboth Commends Archbishop Kaziimba's Integrity in Leadership

Speaker Jacob Marksons Oboth recently paid tribute to the outgoing Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Rt Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, highlighting his courageous and consistent advocacy for integrity and accountability.

During a farewell service held at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Tororo, Oboth remarked that Archbishop Kaziimba’s pronouncements on character and accountability extended beyond religious discourse, significantly shaping public leadership. “For those entrusted with public responsibility, your firm moral voice has given us confidence to do what is right, even when it is difficult. You have reminded us that leadership is not simply about holding office but holding a trust on behalf of the people and ultimately before God,” Oboth stated.

The Speaker traced Kaziimba’s journey from a Sunday school teacher to his prominent leadership role, illustrating that humble origins do not preclude significant achievement through dedicated service. Oboth further noted that Archbishop Kaziimba utilized his tenure to expand the Church’s outreach into areas such as education, health, livelihoods, social development, and peacebuilding, consistently emphasizing personal and public integrity.

Archbishop Kaziimba, in his address, urged Christians to reject division and hypocrisy, advocating for renewed unity. He suggested that the nation could only overcome cycles of violence and internal conflicts through a collective transformation of thought, heart, and action.

Using a football analogy from his playing days, the Archbishop cautioned against internal strife within both the church and political arenas, likening self-sabotaging leaders to players scoring own goals. “We don’t need to fight each other; the person you are hurting may help you someday and therefore, you should all know that we need each other,” he emphasized.

He also called for a spiritual “divine transplanting,” where God replaces hearts of stone with hearts of forgiveness, believing such a change would bring about broader societal transformation.
