Tooro PM Seeks Dialogue with Clan Head Amidst Kingdom Disputes

Prime Minister of Tooro Kingdom, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire, has extended an olive branch to Charles Kamurasi, the head of the ruling Babiito clan, proposing a dialogue to mend divisions within the kingdom. Rwomiire appealed to Kamurasi and other elders to keep their disagreements private until after the state burial of the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
According to Rwomiire, some information regarding the late King’s condition and succession matters was not shared with Musuuga, while the Prime Minister himself was also privy to certain developments only after the King’s passing. He stated his willingness to return to Tooro to engage in discussions with Musuuga and other elders to address these outstanding issues.
“In case of any other matters, Akiiki Musuuga, I’m coming home so you can offer me guidance and so that we can have a conversation to resolve the issues with other elders,” Rwomiire remarked, emphasizing the need for unity and respect during this period of mourning.
He urged stakeholders to refrain from public disputes and speculation, emphasizing that the focus should be on giving the late King a dignified farewell. Rwomiire defended the earlier public communication that the King was abroad studying and in good health, stating it was in accordance with the late King’s wishes to avoid causing unnecessary alarm.
Disagreements have surfaced concerning the handling of succession and information released about the King’s final days. While the Queen Mother confirmed the existence of an heir to President Museveni, the heir’s identity remains undisclosed. Rwomiire stressed that matters requiring clarification should be addressed after the burial, asserting that all other issues are secondary at this time.
He also addressed his absence from Karuziika Palace, explaining that he was coordinating funeral arrangements and mobilizing resources with government officials.
King Oyo, who ascended the throne at three years old, passed away at 34 in the United States after undergoing treatment for cancer. His burial is scheduled for September 12, coinciding with his coronation anniversary, at the royal mausoleum in Karambi.
