Two Police Officers Arrested for Fatal Shooting of Boda Boda Rider in Agago

Two police officers are in custody in Agago District, facing murder charges after allegedly shooting and killing a boda boda rider. The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon when officers, reportedly pursuing the victim for a traffic violation, shot him in Wang-kweyo swamp along Kokil Road in Kalongo Town Council.

The deceased, identified as John Baptist Oyoo, was riding from Kokil to Kalongo Town Council. According to authorities, the officers signaled Oyoo to stop, but he sped off, initiating a pursuit that lasted approximately two kilometers. During the chase, one of the officers is alleged to have fatally shot the 23-year-old rider.

The District Police Commander, Mr. Omar Kokole, confirmed the arrests and the unfortunate nature of the event. He stated that both officers have been charged with murder and are awaiting trial at Patongo High Court. Investigations into the shooting are ongoing.

The incident has drawn condemnation from local leaders. Mr. Edward Otto Makmot, the Agago County MP, expressed deep regret over the loss of young life and called for a swift and thorough investigation to ensure accountability. This incident adds to a concerning pattern of civilian deaths involving security forces in Agago District.
