UMSC Declares National Prayer for Rain Amidst Drought Concerns

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has issued a call for a national prayer for rain, known as Salatul-Istisqa, to address the prolonged dry spell affecting various regions of Uganda. The special prayer is scheduled to take place simultaneously in mosques across the nation at 1:40 PM this Friday.

This directive was communicated through a circular dated September 2, 2026, from the UMSC Department of Religious Affairs, signed by Sheikh Ssali Imran Abdunoor, the Secretary for Religious Affairs. The prayer aims to implore Allah for mercy and blessings as the country grapples with the prevailing dry weather.

Sheikh Ssali urged all regional Muslim leaders, including Regional Assistants to the Mufti, District Kadhis, County Sheikhs, and Imams, to mobilize their communities and ensure the prayer is conducted as planned. He emphasized the importance of repentance, supplication, and charity during this period.

“Muslims are encouraged to sincerely turn to Almighty Allah through Istighfar, repentance, Dua, charity and good deeds, seeking His mercy and beneficial rainfall for our country,” the circular stated. Muslim leaders have been tasked with ensuring their communities are well-prepared to participate in and lead the prayer effectively.

The UMSC concluded with a collective prayer for Uganda, asking for acceptance of the Muslims’ supplications, forgiveness for shortcomings, and abundant, beneficial rainfall for the nation.
