Adhola Cultural Leader Mourns King Oyo, Cites Shared Ancestry

The cultural landscape of Uganda is in mourning following the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV of Tooro. His Royal Highness Moses Stephen Owori, the leader of the Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution, has issued a heartfelt condolence message, describing the loss as significant for the Tooro kingdom, Uganda, and the broader community of traditional leaders.

Owori emphasized a profound historical connection between the Padhola people and the Babito clan, the royal lineage of Tooro. He noted similarities in names and traditions, underscoring a shared heritage that deepens the sense of loss.

“We are deeply saddened by the great loss of a young and industrious king,” Owori stated, reflecting on King Oyo’s impactful reign. He characterized the late monarch as a leader dedicated to fostering development, social harmony, and positive change within his kingdom and beyond its borders.

King Oyo was also recognized for his pivotal role in establishing the Council of Traditional Leaders in Africa-Uganda Chapter. Owori credited the late king’s “good works” with the Queen Mother of Tooro for contributing to the formation of this important inter-traditional leadership body.

As Tooro prepares for its king’s final rites, Owori urged for unity and calm among mourners. He called for a “decent send-off” for the fallen king, acknowledging the void left in Uganda’s cultural leadership.

The Adhola cultural leader pledged solidarity with King Oyo’s royal family and the people of Tooro during this difficult period, stating, “We shall dearly miss him. His contribution to his kingdom and beyond will not be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
