In Kiboga District, a growing number of residents are turning to collective saving as a powerful tool to combat poverty and enhance their financial well-being. The CBS Pewosa Nabwendo Bisobooka group in Mutuba 11, Muwanga Sub-county, exemplifies this trend, having collectively saved over Shs30 million.
This savings initiative, designed to foster economic empowerment within Buganda, has enabled members to not only meet household needs but also to create avenues for investment. Before joining the group, many individuals faced challenges in achieving their financial goals independently. However, through disciplined, regular contributions and mutual support, members have witnessed a tangible improvement in their economic circumstances.
Specioza Massiwa, a member of the Nabwendo Bisobooka group, highlighted the transformative power of unity and consistent saving. “Saving together has taught us to plan for our future,” she stated. “We have been able to accumulate money that would have been difficult for us to raise individually, and this has changed the way we manage our households.”
The group received initial training from CBS Pewosa experts on the significance of saving, hard work, and prudent financial management. Edith Namazzi, who led the training, encouraged members to remain committed to saving and to invest their accumulated funds in productive ventures.
Namazzi emphasized that saving is just one component of financial growth. “Members must also work hard and invest responsibly so that their savings can translate into lasting improvements in their lives,” she advised. Asafu Mukiibi, instrumental in introducing this approach in Mutuba 11, recognized the need for communal action against poverty and sought support from the main CBS Pewosa office.
Local leaders, including Buganda Kingdom officials, have lauded these efforts and encouraged wider participation, particularly among the youth. They stressed the importance of saving as a means to boost household incomes and secure future financial stability. The success of groups like Nabwendo Bisobooka underscores the potential of organized community saving to uplift households and foster development.
