The mortal remains of Tooro’s late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV have officially returned to Uganda, arriving at Entebbe International Airport on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 10:00 AM.

President Yoweri Museveni was present at the airport to receive the casket, accompanied by the Queen Mother and several government officials, signifying the national importance of the occasion.

Uganda Police paid tribute by draping the casket in the national flag and the distinct colours of Tooro Kingdom. A guard of honour was formed at the airport as the casket was escorted.

President Museveni then proceeded to lay a wreath, offering his final respects to the departed monarch. Following the ceremony, the casket was carefully transferred to a waiting helicopter.

The helicopter is en route to Kyegegwa District, where further funeral proceedings will unfold. King Oyo, who ascended to the throne at the tender age of three in 1995, passed away in the United States on August 27.

Last week, President Museveni announced a period of three days of national mourning, from Friday, September 11 to Sunday, September 13. The late Omukama is scheduled to be laid to rest on Saturday, September 12.
