Musician Derrick Ddungu, better known by his stage name Rickman, found the net for Express FC in their impressive 2-0 win against traditional rivals KCCA in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League fixture. The victory, played at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, saw the forward, who is belatedly pursuing a football career paused for music, double Express’s lead.
While KCCA, considered title contenders after a strong previous season and pre-season success, made several high-profile signings, they struggled to impose themselves on the game. Express, who have focused on free agents and players from other clubs, appeared more comfortable in possession. Though chances were few in the first half, the game ignited after the break.
Isaac Wagoina opened the scoring for Express in the 51st minute before Rickman sealed the victory. The goal was met with significant cheers from Express fans and officials, including club patron Kiryowa Kiwanuka. The win marks a positive turn for Express coach Morley Byekwaso, who has ties to KCCA, securing his first win after an opening day loss.
Conversely, the result intensifies the pressure on KCCA’s head coach Brian Ssenyondo, with this being their second consecutive defeat. The club’s ongoing league trophy drought, stretching back to 2019, is a growing concern for the management.
In other league action, BUL FC secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Kataka, with Derrick Byabachwezi netting a hat-trick. This win propels BUL to the top of the table.
