Uganda is actively positioning itself as a prime destination for global mining investment, showcasing a mineral endowment estimated to range from $4 trillion to $12 trillion. This significant wealth includes abundant deposits of critical minerals, making the country an attractive prospect for the international market.

The Uganda Investment Authority, represented at the 24th Africa Down Under Conference in Perth, Australia, presented a compelling case to potential investors. The conference served as a vital platform, bringing together governments, mining corporations, financiers, and policymakers to deliberate on the burgeoning investment and business landscape within Africa’s resource sector.

During the event, Uganda emphasized its rich mineral potential and assured investors of a well-structured framework for accessing opportunities. Projects like the Makuutu critical mineral development in eastern Uganda were specifically highlighted. The delegation provided comprehensive data, including geological surveys, licensing clarity, project ownership details, feasibility studies, infrastructure assessments, environmental and social impact reports, cost estimates, production forecasts, and potential market analyses.

This strategic initiative is central to Uganda’s broader economic goals, aiming to elevate the mining sector’s contribution to the national economy and establish the country as a key global supplier of critical minerals. Uganda’s High Commissioner to Australia, Dorothy Hyuha, noted that the conference provides a crucial nexus for linking the nation’s mineral prospects with international capital and technical know-how. Humphrey Asiimwe, CEO of the Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum, further elaborated on the rapid development of Uganda’s mining industry, pointing to untapped potential in gold, iron ore, graphite, rare earths, copper, and cobalt.
