Wakiso Village Leaders Warned Against Misusing Stamps for Land Grabbing

Newly appointed village chairpersons in Wakiso District are facing stern warnings against leveraging their official capacities and stamps to engage in or facilitate land grabbing and fraudulent land dealings. The Wakiso Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Ms Angel Namulimbe, stated that her office has been inundated with complaints concerning fraud and land theft, many of which implicate local leaders.

“Our office is always full of cases of fraud and land grabbing, and many of these cases involve LC leaders,” Ms. Namulimbe remarked during the swearing-in ceremony for village chairpersons and the distribution of official stamps in Wakiso Town Council. She emphasized that any leader found to be collaborating with land grabbers would face arrest and that such misuse of official stamps would not be tolerated.

Wakiso Town Council Chairperson, Mr. Fredson Mukalazi Kasiwukira, echoed these sentiments, accusing some leaders of partnering with wealthy individuals to dispossess residents of their land. He urged the chairpersons to remain vigilant and ensure their offices are not exploited for illicit land transactions. “Security has been alerted. In case you are reported misusing the stamp, we shall recall it,” he warned.

Officials also stressed that the official stamps are tools for enforcing laws and ensuring proper administration, not for personal enrichment. Leaders were advised to seek legitimate employment rather than viewing the stamp as a source of income. The village chairpersons, in turn, pledged to exercise caution and responsibility in their duties, while also raising concerns about their low remuneration and the need for official identification.
