Kampala – Political commentator and former intelligence operative Charles Rwomushana was reportedly abducted by armed men on Saturday while participating in a live radio broadcast. The incident occurred at Radio Simba’s studios in Bukoto, Kampala, during the station’s popular political talk show, “Gasimbagane ne Bannamawulire.”

Eyewitness accounts and video footage suggest that several armed individuals, dressed in civilian clothing, entered the radio station and forcibly took Rwomushana. The footage shows multiple men, some appearing to be armed with firearms, escorting Rwomushana from the premises against his will.

As of Saturday afternoon, the identities of the armed men and the reasons for Rwomushana’s detention were not publicly disclosed. Neither the Uganda Police Force nor the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) had issued statements explaining the abduction.

Rwomushana is a known figure in Ugandan political discourse, often appearing on various media platforms to offer commentary. His analysis, however, is frequently characterized by controversy. His name has previously surfaced in documents connected to the treason trial of opposition politician Dr. Kizza Besigye and his associates, though Rwomushana has consistently refuted any involvement.

It remains uncertain whether his apprehension is linked to the ongoing legal proceedings or other undisclosed matters. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of media personalities and freedom of expression in the country.
