Recent social media speculation regarding the health of Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Irema-Ngoma has been addressed by the Rwenzururu Kingdom. Prime Minister Benson Kule Baritizale clarified that the King is not critically ill but has traveled to Turkey for a scheduled medical review.
Baritizale explained that the trip is a follow-up to a previous treatment, with doctors having recommended a review within a six-month period. “It is a normal medical review,” he stated, aiming to alleviate public concern.
The Kingdom’s official X account also released a statement, expressing gratitude for the public’s outpouring of love, prayers, and well-wishes towards the King, the Royal Family, and the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu institution.
“We wish to clarify that HM Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Irema-Ngoma is not critically ill, contrary to reports circulating on social media. He travelled to Türkiye for a routine medical review, as advised by his doctors,” the post read. It further added, “We sincerely appreciate everyone for the love, prayers, concern, & well-wishes extended to His Majesty, the Royal Family & Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu. Thank you for your continued love and support.”
While reassuring the public that there is no cause for alarm, specific details regarding the King’s travel dates and expected return were not provided. King Mumbere previously sought medical attention in Turkey in October 2025 and returned to Kasese in October 2023 after a prolonged period in custody following his arrest in November 2016.
