Ugandan Pharma Firm Secures Five-Year Africa CDC Supplier Status

Dei BioPharma Ltd. has officially been onboarded as a supplier to the African Pooled Procurement Mechanism (APPM), a continental health product procurement platform overseen by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).
The company received notification on August 28, confirming its registration for a five-year period starting September 1, 2026. This status allows Dei BioPharma to engage in commercial bidding for framework contracts under the APPM.
This achievement is seen as a significant step for Uganda, providing a foothold in a continental initiative aimed at enhancing the procurement of essential health products. The APPM seeks to aggregate demand, boost purchasing power, ensure supply security, and create more stable markets for African manufacturers.
Dr. Matthias Magoola, Founder and Managing Director of Dei BioPharma, highlighted the broader implications, stating that the qualification signifies the company’s transition from infrastructure development to building a diverse portfolio of regulated products suitable for markets beyond Uganda. This comes as the firm has submitted 65 product applications to the National Drug Authority, with 40 approved for manufacture and 14 cleared for sale.
The company’s expanding product pipeline is crucial for its APPM qualification, demonstrating its potential to address various health needs and compete in regional and continental markets. This aligns with the African Union’s goal to meet at least 60 percent of Africa’s health product needs through local manufacturing by 2040.
In parallel, Dei BioPharma recently filed seven patents in the United States for messenger RNA (mRNA) cancer-vaccine technologies, showcasing its commitment to innovation in pharmaceutical development.
