Authorities in Kisoro District have launched an investigation into the tragic death of Brain Mbonyebyombi, a 33-year-old resident of Chahi Village. The incident, which occurred on September 6, 2026, is being treated as a suspected suicide.

Reports indicate that Mbonyebyombi returned home on the morning of the incident in an intoxicated state and requested food from his wife. Shortly thereafter, his wife discovered him deceased in their bedroom.

According to Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, Nelson Tumushime, preliminary findings suggest the deceased had a history of attempting suicide, with past incidents linked to alcohol consumption.

The body has been transported for a postmortem examination as police continue their inquiries into the exact cause of death. The investigation is ongoing.

In light of this incident, Tumushime emphasized the importance of seeking help for mental health challenges. He urged individuals experiencing stress, depression, or financial difficulties to reach out to counselors, religious leaders, or trusted friends and family for support, rather than resorting to self-harm.

“If you or someone you know needs support, you can contact a trusted person or reach out to a local counsellor, religious leader, or health worker for help,” Tumushime stated, offering a message of hope and directing people towards available resources.
