Princess Ruth Nsemere Komuntale has returned to Uganda to attend the burial rites of her younger brother, the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. During this somber period, she has been meeting with various members of the Tooro royal family, including her aunts Princess Elizabeth Bagaya Akiiki, Princess Rose Balinda Abwooli, and Princess Margret Komubaizi, as well as her uncle, Chief Prince Musuuga Charles Kamurasi Akiiki.

Accompanying Princess Komuntale was her husband, Anthony Philip Farquharson. She spoke movingly about Farquharson’s significant role in caring for King Oyo, particularly in the months leading up to his passing.

“He was the chef in the house. So he was always taking care of my brother,” Komuntale shared, emphasizing the close relationship they shared. She described how her husband treated King Oyo like his own sibling, a sentiment that was reciprocated by the late king who deeply loved Farquharson.

Komuntale expressed immense gratitude to her husband for his unwavering support and dedication during the family’s difficult time. “We wouldn’t have done it without him. He was a very big support system for us,” she stated. King Oyo, who reigned for over three decades after ascending the throne at the age of three, passed away on August 27, 2026, in the United States where he was undergoing treatment for cancer. His remains were returned to Uganda on September 4th and he is set to be laid to rest on September 12th at the Karambi Royal Tombs.
