Our Lady of Good Health Rushoroza Hospital has been honored as the leading general hospital in the Kigezi region, following a comprehensive review by the Ministry of Health and Kabale Regional Referral Hospital. This recognition highlights the hospital’s dedication to providing high-quality healthcare services.

Dr. Martin Bikorwomuhangi, the head of Rushoroza Hospital, attributed this success to the institution’s unwavering focus on patient welfare, strategic investments in modern medical equipment, and the dedication of its staff. “Our care for patients is at the top. We have committed human resources, including health professionals, administrators and support staff, who have made the hospital what it is today,” he stated.

The hospital has made substantial upgrades, acquiring advanced equipment such as digital X-ray machines, ultrasound scanners, and enhancing its laboratory services to handle over 1,000 different tests. In the 2025/2026 financial year, Rushoroza Hospital served over 60,000 patients, comprising approximately 41,000 outpatients and more than 6,000 inpatients. The facility also successfully performed over 1,000 surgeries and managed more than 1,000 deliveries.

Despite these achievements, Dr. Bikorwomuhangi noted that ensuring healthcare affordability for the vulnerable populations it serves remains a significant challenge for the mission hospital. “As a mission hospital, one of our key agendas is to serve the poorest of the poor. Balancing affordability while maintaining quality services is a major challenge,” he explained.

During the review mission, Health Minister Dr. Chris Baryomunsi acknowledged the strides made by health facilities in the Kigezi region in enhancing service delivery. He specifically commended the role of private and faith-based institutions like Rushoroza Hospital in supplementing government healthcare efforts. The Minister also assured that the government would increase the supply of medicines, addressing concerns regarding potential theft and misuse.
