A dispute over a Shs150,000 debt has led to a tragic death in Lira City, with police investigating the alleged murder of Jasper Ogwang, 30, by his younger brother, Tonny Odil, 28.

The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, September 11, 2026, in Barkwoyo Cell, Adekokwok Ward, Lira City East Division.

According to police reports, the conflict began when Ogwang demanded repayment of money Odil had borrowed, allegedly to purchase iron sheets. The debt had apparently been outstanding for some time, culminating in a heated argument between the siblings.

Witnesses told authorities that the disagreement escalated into a physical fight. During the altercation, Odil is accused of grabbing a hoe and striking Ogwang on the head, causing him to collapse and die at the scene.

Police from Lira City East Division responded to the incident, securing the scene and gathering initial witness statements. North Kyoga Region Police spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed that the suspect, Odil, fled the scene and remains at large.

The body of the deceased has been transported to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
