Stolen Kenyan Truck Intercepted in Pallisa, Two Suspects Arrested

Authorities in Pallisa, Uganda, have successfully intercepted a white Isuzu truck believed to have been stolen from Kenya. The operation followed a tip-off received by traffic officer Sgt Fred Mutono on Friday morning.

Officers intercepted the truck, bearing Ugandan registration UAQ 893X, at the Pallisa-Kamonkoli junction along the Mbale-Pallisa road. The driver and a passenger were apprehended at the scene and the vehicle was taken to Pallisa Central Police Station.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Okongo Joseph, 41, from Tororo District, Uganda, and Kiprotich Victor, 23, a mechanic from Eldoret, Kenya. Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck’s original Kenyan license plate was KDF 540N, which had allegedly been swapped.

Police confirmed that the vehicle was reported stolen in Kenya at Katmosi Police Station, under OB 07/2026. The circumstances under which the truck allegedly crossed into Uganda and obtained new registration plates are now the subject of an ongoing investigation.

The suspects reportedly told investigators they were instructed to drive the truck to Soroti and hand it over to an individual identified as a “unit car driver” at Malaba. The motive behind the alleged theft and the vehicle’s movement across the border are still being clarified.

A case of being in possession of suspected stolen property has been opened at Pallisa Central Police Station. The truck is impounded, and the suspects remain in custody for further questioning. Police are also verifying the vehicle’s registration status with the Uganda Revenue Authority and are expected to collaborate with Interpol Kenya to unravel the case.
