Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Offices Secured Amidst Planned Youth Protest

Heavy security presence was observed at the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom headquarters in Hoima City on Monday morning, as police and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) sealed off the area. Access to the Rukurato, or Kingdom chambers, was restricted, with officers also stationed at the palace and patrolling surrounding parts of the city.

The joint security operation was reportedly prompted by intelligence suggesting a group of youth intended to storm the kingdom’s offices. Albertine Region Police spokesperson, Julius Hakiza, described the deployment as a standard measure to ensure public order and prevent potential chaos.

“We received intelligence indicating that a group of youth were planning to storm the headquarters to cause chaos,” Hakiza stated in a telephone interview. He emphasized that the deployment was a preventive measure to maintain peace and stability, urging the public to refrain from any actions that could lead to unrest.

Security forces have warned that stern action will be taken against individuals attempting to disrupt public order. While the police did not elaborate on the specific group allegedly planning the protest or their motives, the heightened security comes at a time of increased focus on the activities within the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom.

Authorities are maintaining a vigilant stance to ensure the safety and security of the kingdom’s infrastructure and the general public. The situation remains under close observation by law enforcement.
