Museveni Thanks Outgoing Indian High Commissioner for Strengthening Ties

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has bid farewell to the outgoing Indian High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E Upender Singh Rawat, praising his contributions to enhancing bilateral ties between the two nations.

The Head of State made these remarks at State House Entebbe during a farewell meeting with the envoy. “Thank you for your service in Uganda, and I wish you good luck in your next tour of duty,” President Museveni stated.

H.E Rawat, accompanied by Mr. Yogender Singh (Second Secretary at the Indian High Commission) and Ambassador Henry Mayega (Head of International Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), informed the President about the successful collaboration during his three-year and three-month tenure.

Key achievements highlighted include the establishment of the first offshore campus of India’s National Forensic Sciences University in Jinja, which commenced operations on April 12, 2023. This institution focuses on forensic science and security-related training, fostering cooperation in education, research, and security.

Additionally, the High Commissioner’s engagement with Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bank of Uganda on the National Payment Switch initiative was noted. This digital financial project aims to bolster secure cross-border remittances and integrate the Ugandan diaspora into the national financial system.

H.E Rawat is expected to return to India for his next assignment.
