Bukoto Waitress Murder: Suspect Further Remanded

Patricia Rose Turindwamukama, a 21-year-old woman, appeared before the Kampala City Hall Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. She faces charges of murder and aggravated robbery in connection with the death of Jovia Namuwulya, a former colleague and waitress at a Bukoto bar.

The court heard that investigations are still ongoing, and the prosecution requested additional time to complete them. As a result, Turindwamukama’s remand was extended, and the case has been adjourned to October 15 for mention. She will remain in Luzira Prison custody.

Turindwamukama, who is described as self-employed and residing in Mukalazi Zone, Bukoto, was initially arraigned on September 7. The prosecution alleges that on the night of August 20, she and an accomplice, who is still at large, unlawfully caused Namuwulya’s death with malice aforethought.

In addition to the murder charge, Turindwamukama is accused of aggravated robbery. It is alleged that during the incident, she and her accomplice robbed Namuwulya of an iPhone 12 Pro Max, a bag, clothing, and a passport. The prosecution stated that a knife, considered a deadly weapon, was allegedly used during the robbery before Namuwulya was murdered.

These charges are capital offences, meaning they will eventually be tried in the High Court. Turindwamukama was arrested on August 24, four days after the alleged murder. Preliminary police investigations indicated she had applied for an Iraqi visa the day after Namuwulya’s death. Turindwamukama has denied involvement and reportedly claimed that she and the deceased were with a man who later accused Namuwulya of theft.
