Iteso and Nigerian Leaders Forge Cultural Unity Path for Africa

Traditional leaders from Uganda and Nigeria are exploring a collaborative agenda focused on enhancing African unity, peacebuilding, and youth development. The high-level cultural engagement, held in Kampala, brought together Emorimor Paul Sande Etomeileng Emolot of the Iteso and Queen Aruk II (Obonganwan Marie Ikpeme Erete) from Nigeria.

The discussions centered on how cultural institutions can bridge national and geographical divides, preserve shared heritage, and contribute to community development. Both leaders emphasized the crucial role of traditional institutions as custodians of values and history in fostering dialogue and peaceful coexistence across the continent.

Emorimor Paul Sande Etomeileng Emolot called for a more active role for cultural leaders in promoting peace and unity beyond their immediate communities, stating, “We as cultural leaders globally shall advocate for peace and unity. This will be the key contribution to our people and we shall push for it.”

Furthering the agenda, Toto Akaliait Juliet Among highlighted the importance of protecting and empowering the girl child, integrating social development into the cultural framework. The discussions also delved into practical cooperation areas such as cultural exchanges, youth and women’s empowerment, and heritage preservation.

This Kampala meeting is seen as a foundational step towards building a broader network of inter-African traditional leadership cooperation. The initiative aims to translate shared visions into tangible projects that benefit communities, demonstrating that Africa’s rich cultural diversity can serve as a powerful catalyst for continental unity.
