Kadaga Urges Diaspora Basoga to Invest in Ancestral Homes

First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga has implored members of the Basoga community residing in the diaspora, especially those in Kampala, to invest in constructing homes within their ancestral villages. Kadaga emphasized that this initiative is crucial for maintaining dignity and ensuring a respectable place for their remains before burial.

Speaking at a special prayer service for Basoga in Kampala held at All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero, Kadaga expressed her sorrow over the plight of some affluent individuals who, despite owning significant properties in the city, lack a proper home in their villages to accommodate their bodies after death.

“It is very painful that some people said to be rich with big buildings in Kampala, when they die, their bodies are put in tents in the village because they have nowhere to be placed. I urge you Basoga in the diaspora to go and build at home in the village,” Kadaga stated.

The annual prayer week, organized by the Busoga Consortium for Development, serves as a platform for leaders and the community to reflect on the region’s progress, foster unity, and pray for prosperity. This year’s event commenced with a service in Kampala and is set to conclude with a ceremony in Mayuge, anticipated to be graced by President Museveni.

During the opening service, Assistant Bishop of Kampala, Rt Rev Jackson Balwa, urged leaders to prioritize the welfare of their constituents. The Chairperson of the Busoga Parliamentary Caucus, Steven Kisa, defended the prayer week against critics, highlighting its importance for praying for leaders, development, and unity within Busoga.

Kadaga also outlined key priorities for Busoga leaders, including the promotion of tourism, poverty alleviation efforts, and the completion of the Kimaka Airstrip in Jinja City.
