Police Fatally Shoot Suspected Robber in Maracha Fuel Station Incident

A robbery attempt at Asili fuel station in Maracha town council ended tragically for one suspect who was shot dead by police on Monday evening. The incident unfolded around 7:40 pm when three armed assailants reportedly attacked the fuel station located in Buramali Cell, near Nyadri trading centre.

Alerted by staff and residents, police officers from the Maracha district headquarters swiftly responded to the scene. According to Josephine Angucia, the West Nile regional police spokesperson, a confrontation ensued, with the suspects allegedly opening fire on the responding officers.

During the exchange of gunfire, one of the suspected robbers was killed. Police have recovered a submachine gun (SMG) that was allegedly in the possession of the deceased. His accomplices managed to escape the scene in an unspecified direction.

The body of the deceased has been transferred to Maracha Hospital for further processing and identification by family members. Authorities are urging the public to remain calm as investigations continue and a manhunt is underway for the two absconding suspects.

Security reports suggest the perpetrators may be linked to armed gangs active in the Arua region and potentially operating across the border into South Sudan. Police are appealing for any information that could lead to the apprehension of the remaining suspects.
