Pride Bank has announced a significant partnership with Interswitch, aimed at enhancing customer access to financial services across Uganda. This collaboration will see Pride Bank customers utilizing over 21,000 Quickteller agents, a vast network of ATMs, and more than 20,000 point-of-sale (POS) terminals.
The new arrangement allows customers to perform essential transactions such as cash deposits, withdrawals, loan repayments, and bill payments at participating Quickteller agent locations. This initiative is designed to bring banking services closer to communities, particularly for individuals who may not have immediate access to a physical bank branch.
Pride Bank Managing Director, Veronica Namagembe, emphasized the bank’s commitment to integrating banking into customers’ lives. “At Pride Bank, we believe banking should fit into the lives of our customers rather than requiring our customers to organize their lives around banking,” she stated. The expanded network is particularly beneficial for traders, farmers, and small business owners, offering them greater convenience.
In addition to agency banking, Pride Bank is also rolling out Verve debit cards. These cards, equipped with EMV chip-and-PIN technology for enhanced security, will enable customers to withdraw cash from over 650 ATMs and make purchases at the extensive network of POS locations within the Interswitch network.
Moris Seguya, Interswitch Uganda Country Manager, highlighted the strategic importance of leveraging existing infrastructure to broaden financial inclusion. “Our partnership with Pride Bank is about using technology and payments infrastructure to solve a very practical customer need—giving people more convenient ways to access and use their money,” Seguya commented. Both companies anticipate further expansion of services as the partnership matures.
This move by Pride Bank reflects a broader industry trend where financial institutions are increasingly relying on agency banking and electronic payment networks to extend their reach beyond traditional brick-and-mortar branches.
