Rugumayo Continues Dominant Run with Pearl of Africa Series Victory

Ronald Rugumayo further cemented his impressive form by clinching the 2026 Pearl of Africa (POA) Golf Series title at Entebbe Club. This victory follows his recent triumph at the Uganda Professionals Golf Open, solidifying his reputation as Uganda’s most in-form professional golfer.

Rugumayo posted a final aggregate score of 13-under par 200, securing the win with a closing round of two-under 69. The win comes with a significant share of the event’s Shs78 million prize money, which was doubled for participants aiming for qualification pathways on the Sunshine Development Tour and Betway Big Easy Tour.

This latest win marks Rugumayo’s fifth consecutive tournament victory, a remarkable achievement in Ugandan golf history. He expressed his gratitude for the support of the fans, stating, “It’s always a great feeling to win, most especially when in front of people who support you.”

Reflecting on his recent success, Rugumayo highlighted his ability to maintain a “fresh mindset” after each win, allowing him to focus on the next challenge. His winning streak includes victories at the MTN Pro Tee Series, the Uganda Professionals Golf Open, and multiple other Pro-Am and Open events.

During the POA Series, Rugumayo showcased strong performances, including a second-round 64 and a decisive birdie on the 14th hole in the final round. Despite some putting challenges, he maintained his composure to hold off competitors like Godwin Okoko and Slade Pickering. Notably, Rugumayo wore attire similar to his previous Uganda Open win, attributing some of his success to superstition.

Rugumayo is now set to compete in the Rwanda Open and other international tournaments, aiming to replicate his domestic success on the global stage.
