Uganda’s senior women’s netball team, the She Cranes, continued their impressive form at the 2026 Africa Netball Championship by securing a decisive 58-40 win over Zambia. This victory follows their strong opening-day performance, where they defeated tournament newcomers Nigeria 68-30.
The She Cranes established an early lead against Zambia, showcasing swift centre passes and effective attacking play driven by goal shooter Christine Namulumba and goal attacker Shadiah Nagujja. By the end of the first quarter, Uganda held a significant 22-7 advantage.
While Zambia improved their scoring in the second quarter, Uganda maintained control, with centre Maggie Bagala orchestrating the tempo. The defensive unit, featuring Shaffie Nalwanja, Gloria Ayaa, and Nassim Mutesi, effectively limited Zambia’s scoring opportunities, allowing the She Cranes to head into halftime with a comfortable 35-18 lead.
The third quarter saw a more balanced contest as both teams tightened their defenses. Uganda entered the final quarter with a 44-29 lead. Strategic substitutions in the final period, including Rachael Nanyonga and Alice Isoto entering the game, helped reignite Uganda’s intensity and secure the 58-40 victory.
Captain Rachael Nanyonga acknowledged the team’s ambition for a higher score but noted Zambia’s resilience. The She Cranes are now focused on their upcoming match against hosts Kenya, aiming to extend their unbeaten streak in the championship.
