StarTimes Uganda Premier League: Big Clubs Get Break to Rejig Following Mixed Start

The upcoming three-week international break offers a much-needed respite for several traditional powerhouses in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League. Teams such as Vipers, KCCA, Kitara, Express, and URA have experienced a mixed start to the season, and this pause provides a valuable opportunity to reassess and regroup.

Vipers, in particular, secured a vital 3-0 victory over Ntungasaze on Saturday, marking their first win of the campaign and moving them up the table. Goals from Gusto Mulongo, Chukwuma Odili, and Ceaser Manzoki provided a glimmer of hope for coach Denis Lavagne after recent setbacks.

Similarly, KCCA managed a narrow 1-0 win against Kataka, with Emmanuel Anyama scoring the decisive goal. Coach Brian Ssenyondo acknowledged the break’s timing, stating his intention to “reshape, organise, and panel beat a few things” to improve performance. The potential return of striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe could bolster their attack, which has struggled for goals.

Kitara, though yet to secure a league victory, remains competitive, but injuries to key players like Patrick Henry Kaddu and Isaac Amutuhaire pose challenges. Express and URA also find themselves needing a reset, with URA suffering a significant 4-1 defeat to NEC.

Meanwhile, early pace-setters BUL continue their impressive form with a perfect record, while SC Villa and NEC are also showing strong performances. The break, however, is critical for the established clubs to find their rhythm before the league resumes next month. For the newly promoted sides like Ntungasaze, Kataka, and Kigezi Homeboyz, the pressure is mounting to find form or risk an early relegation battle.
